The Finnish Food Authority has expanded the central area of the African swine fever (ASF) infection zone in the areas of Virolahti and Miehikkälä.
The central area has been extended approximately 11 kilometers westward. The boundaries of the infected zone remain unchanged.
The central area is being expanded because ASF was detected in dead wild boar found in the Virolahti area, west of the central area.
Approximately 15 dead wild boar were found in a relatively small area about one week ago. Laboratory tests on 7 wild boar on 28 October confirmed ASF. The remaining test results will be completed later.
Hunting restrictions will remain unchanged, but some restrictions will be specified in a decision by the Finnish Food Authority dated 29 October 2026.
