logoCeva Santé Animale announces an update to the marketing authorization for Parvoruvax®, which can now be administered mixed with Enteroporc COLI AC®. This combination simplifies the vaccination protocol for sows and gilts while providing coverage against a broad range of major diseases in pig farming.

Two complementary protections in a single injection

Parvoruvax® provides active immunization in gilts and sows against:

  • swine erysipelas (Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae), characterized mainly by septicemia (regularly associated with the appearance of congestive diamond-shaped skin lesions), arthritis, and endocarditis;
  • porcine parvovirus, a major cause of reproductive disorders (embryonic mortality, infertility, and mummification).

Enteroporc COLI AC®, also administered to gilts and sows, provides passive immunization to piglets via colostrum, reducing:

  • mortality and neonatal diarrhea associated with E. coli strains (F4ab, F4ac, F5, F6);
  • early diarrhea caused by Clostridium perfringens type A;
  • mortality and hemorrhagic/necrotizing enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens type C.

A vaccination schedule adapted to the combination

When Parvoruvax® and Enteroporc COLI AC® are administered as a mixture, a single dose of 4 mL is injected intramuscularly into the neck muscles, behind the ear.

The primary vaccination protocol for gilts comprises three injections:

  • the first two are given 3 to 4 weeks apart. In gilts, the first dose is administered within the 7 weeks preceding insemination, and the second must be administered at least 2 weeks before insemination (for example, at 5 and 2 weeks before insemination).
  • the third injection is given 2 weeks before the expected farrowing date.

Thereafter, a single booster is given 2 weeks before each subsequent farrowing, making it easy to incorporate this vaccination into the health monitoring of breeding animals.

This schedule differs from that of Parvoruvax® used alone (booster every six months). It is therefore essential to follow the schedule specific to the combination, to be determined with your veterinarian.

Simplified vaccination for farmers

The possibility of administering Parvoruvax® and Enteroporc COLI AC® together represents a practical advance for livestock farmers, simplifying day-to-day vaccination procedures. With a single injection instead of two separate injections, this approach helps reduce animal handling and stress, while saving valuable time during on-farm procedures. It therefore helps optimize work organization and facilitate the implementation of vaccination protocols, while maintaining the efficacy of each vaccine within its respective indications.
