Today, we are sharing a real case of yolk peritonitis in Hy-Line Grey laying hens. See the specific solution at the end!

  Situation analysis

360-day-old Hy-Line Grey pullets developed abdominal distension, hard lumps around the cloaca, and signs of severe diarrhea. Their feces contained egg white, coagulated protein, and small pieces of yolk. Egg production decreased slightly, and the skin turned bluish-purple.

The follicles were severely deformed, congested, and hemorrhagic, appearing reddish-brown or grayish-brown, and in some cases rupturing. The yolk fluid released into the abdominal cavity had a foul odor. Sometimes the follicles were shrunken and irregularly shaped, golden-yellow or brown, and dull. A layer of yellow or pale-yellow fibrinous exudate covered the abdominal organs. In cases lasting somewhat longer, the intestines and other organs adhered to one another. The mortality rate was approximately four ten-thousandths.

  Cause analysis

1, bacterial or viral infections such as colibacillosis and Newcastle disease affect the reproductive systems of laying hens, causing their follicles to become necrotic and detach into the abdominal cavity, resulting in yolk peritonitis.

  Stress or internal injury

2, mechanical internal injuries caused by fright or violent blows to laying hens can lead to yolk peritonitis. Inflammation of the reproductive system in laying hens—particularly congestion or bleeding of the oviduct, or excessive secretions—can cause inflammatory products to adhere to the infundibulum. The funnel-shaped opening may fail to open during ovulation, causing the ovum to fall into the abdominal cavity. The resulting peritonitis is a major cause of death in chickens.

  Corn mycotoxins

3, for example, zearalenone can affect the normal development of the oviduct, causing the funnel-shaped opening to become smaller or abnormal. This reduces the accuracy with which the opening captures the yolk, allowing some yolk to enter the abdominal cavity and cause yolk peritonitis.

  Prevention and control

Reduce unnecessary stress reactions in daily management. Add Shuanghuanglian daily to reduce stress reactions.

  Microbial balance

Improve the balance of intestinal microflora and reduce the incidence of intestinal diseases. Add Yijunsheng daily to promote intestinal development and reduce the occurrence of disease.

  Solutions

  4, Huang Zhi Li 400 jin water/bottle + B Tou Weng 500 jin water/bottle + Mei Su Jie 4000 jin water/bag, use continuously for 5 days.

Follow-up in the later stage: mortality and culling numbers returned to normal, and the laying rate gradually recovered. The customer was relatively satisfied.

  Mycotoxin prevention and control

Prevent and control mycotoxins to avoid unnecessary losses. Add Mei Su Jie daily to remove mold, rapidly break down toxins, and protect the liver and kidneys, among other benefits.
