AVAC Vietnam JSC shipped the first batch of 100,000 doses of the AVAC ASF LIVE African swine fever vaccine from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on 09-29, as the first shipment under the Philippines’ order for 300,000 doses. This is the vaccine’s largest single-batch export to date.
The vaccine is gene-deletedtechnology-based, live attenuated vaccine (freeze-dried), described as the “world’s first commercially available ASF vaccine.” Before the Philippines’ Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) approved its commercial sale, it underwent 4 years of application review and trials, including 2 years of field monitoring involving more than 50 million pigs. The Philippine Agriculture Secretary said the vaccine provides farmers with an additional tool to protect healthy herds.
In addition, Indonesia is in the final review stage; India has approved the trial; Malaysia is preparing to approve the trial; the vaccine has been registered in Myanmar and African markets.
