‘Next Flex Lab’ seminar... Sharing case studies of ‘3 Flex’ applications
Introduction to the test results for 'Pavoflex Injection': 'A healthy piglet's beginning'
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Korea (CEO Seungwon Seo) held the “NextFLEX LAB” seminar on the 14th at Cafe Bvrix in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, and introduced its “Boehringer pig portfolio” to young pig farmers.
At the seminar, Jeonghee Kim, director of Uni Animal Hospital, shared case studies on the use of the products that make up Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Korea’s “3Flex”: PRRS vaccines, circovirus vaccines, and Mycoplasma vaccines.
He particularly shared his experience with PRRS vaccination, stating, “After administering the ‘Ingelvac PRRS Live Vaccine’ to a pig farm confirmed positive for the NADC34-like genotype PRRS virus, which is currently circulating domestically, the mortality rate decreased and the average daily weight gain increased. This case shows that an NADC34-like genotype PRRS virus can be controlled with a Lineage5 vaccine.”
Park Sook-hyun, Deputy General Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Korea, emphasized, “Vaccine efficacy is fundamental, and safety is essential. The PCV vaccine ‘CircoFLEX’ and the mycoplasma vaccine ‘MyoFLEX’ contain ‘ImpranFLEX,’ an aqueous adjuvant as safe as physiological saline. This allows customized vaccination programs to suit each farm, such as ‘FLEXcombo,’ ‘FLEX CP,’ and ‘3FLEX’.”
Professor Dae-seop Song of Seoul National University’s College of Veterinary Medicine explained, “Porcine parvovirus causes reduced reproductive performance, including stillbirths, mummified fetuses, embryonic deaths, and infertility. It continues to circulate in domestic pig farms. Moreover, the virus’s pathogenicity and tissue tropism continue to change.”
He added, “A new parvovirus vaccine is needed to address this. Tests of Boehringer’s ‘Parvoflex Injection’ confirmed broad cross-neutralizing ability and fetal protection effects. No adverse reactions or unusual symptoms were observed.”
Bae Su-jeong, Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim, said, “’Pavoflex Injection’ has all 3 key advantages: the ‘currency’ of the VP2 antigen based on 27a, the ‘duration’ of the antibodies formed for 6 months, and the ‘practicality’ of an oil-free, simple vaccination program.”
Moon Du-hwan, Executive Director of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Swine Business Unit, said, “The number of piglets born alive is an asset that must be protected in advance,” adding, “‘Pavoflex Injection’ is expected to be a reliable ‘start to healthy piglets, a NEW parvo solution’ that prevents reproductive disorders and declines in productivity caused by parvovirus.”

Latest PPV 27a strain-based...6-month immunity duration, “litter size protection”
‘Pavoflex Ju’ is a next-generation parvovirus vaccine that prevents reproductive disorders caused by porcine parvovirus (PPV) infection. It is scheduled to go on sale through distributors nationwide starting in 11 month.
The 27a-like lineage of parvovirus, which has recently been prevalent mainly in Europe, is distinct from the isolates used in existing vaccines. Mutations in the VP2 protein and antigenic changes have been reported in this lineage. This lineage has also been identified in Korea.
‘Pavoflex’ is produced using the VP2 antigen from the PPV 27a strain in a baculovirus expression system to form virus-like particles (VLPs).
It uses a platform similar to ‘Circuflex’. In addition, it incorporates DiaTEC purification technology and ‘ImpranFLEX’, a water-soluble, non-oil polymer excipient.
The duration of immunity is 6 months. In the published challenge vaccination data, the proportion of normal fetuses was 96% in the vaccinated group and 38% in the unvaccinated group. It can also be used during pregnancy and lactation.
