It is now the transition from late summer to early autumn. Temperatures fluctuate significantly, with large differences between morning, midday, and evening. The intense heat of summer has passed, and the weather has turned cooler with each autumn rain. This is one of the biggest challenges for chicken farmers: it is easy to lose control of the temperature in the chicken house, allowing various pathogens to grow and multiply. This is a season when chickens are prone to illness.

  In addition, neglecting prevention in daily practice can easily trigger diseases, causing chicken flocks to die from outbreaks and epidemics, with considerable losses. Zhanzhao now introduces the symptoms of common chicken diseases during this period, along with prevention and control methods, for chicken farmers. Watch for signs early and take preventive and treatment measures!

  The first thing to emphasize is still management, management, and more management!

  Mosquitoes and flies become more numerous in autumn. Pay attention to hygiene management in the chicken house and remove manure promptly. Try to reduce the number of mosquitoes and flies in the chicken house, because fowlpox and leucocytozoonosis can both be transmitted by mosquitoes and flies during this period. Good hygiene management in the chicken house can reduce the flock’s risk of contracting these two diseases.

  1, strengthen feeding management: ensure that the chicken house is well ventilated and cool, provide drinking water promptly, replace bedding frequently, and pay attention to reducing stocking density;

  2, strictly implement the all-in, all-out system and do not raise chickens of different ages together. Under high-temperature, high-humidity conditions, the amounts of vitamins, trace elements, and antioxidants in the feed should be increased appropriately.

  3, feed should be fresh, not spoiled, and free of a musty smell.

  4, maintain good hygiene and disinfection. Clean the inside and outside of the chicken coop frequently, and wash the feed troughs and waterers often. Scrub them before each vaccination.

  5, remove manure frequently and disinfect regularly. Routinely control rats, mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches.

  6, strengthen the prevention and control of chicken diseases. For viral infectious diseases in chickens and some bacterial infectious diseases, carry out disease prevention in accordance with the immunization program, ensuring that the program is followed and disease monitoring is institutionalized. If a chicken disease occurs, treat it promptly.

  Key points to note regarding diseases

  1. Mild influenza. For treating influenza, it is recommended to combine Chinese and Western medicine with a fever reducer from Dagan medicine for 4 days, which should cure it. For example: the studio's Terminator + Sixth Generation + Wendu Xiao! For early prevention, antiviral No. 2 works better!

  2, for Newcastle disease, ensure vaccination prevention. In autumn and winter, it is recommended to administer the Newcastle disease oil vaccine by eye drops and injection every 7 days for better prevention. The studio's Terminator works well for atypical Newcastle disease.

  3, there are many mosquitoes in autumn, so poultry farmers bringing in chickens in autumn must ensure they receive fowlpox vaccination by wing-web puncture; generally, a 2-fold dose is recommended! Chickens that have had fowlpox can receive an emergency wing-web puncture at a 4-fold dose, followed by treatment with antiviral, fever-reducing, and anti-inflammatory medicines; the results are fair. You can also administer Virulin, vitamin C, and oxytetracycline orally at the same time. Generally, give one tablet of each of these three medicines, 1–2 times a day, for 5–7 days, after which the condition will be cured.

  4, infectious bursal disease can be treated with an injection of yolk antibody, 1–2 milliliters per chicken per injection; generally, 1–2 treatments are sufficient for a cure. For routine prevention, the studio's Fabeiling works well.

  5, Escherichia coli disease can be treated with Pengganqing Sixth Generation | Fourth Generation | Seventh Generation. Mix one generation into 300 jin of water and administer continuously for 3–5 days; improvement or recovery should then be seen.

  6, for fowl cholera, various antibiotics or sulfonamides are effective. Quinolone-ethanol is commonly used and works relatively well; Diquinnet can also be used. For each of the above medicines, use 4 tablets per kilogram of feed.

  7, for staphylococcosis, inject an appropriate amount of ampicillin according to the size of the individual chicken, 2 times a day, and administer furazolidone orally at the same time, adding 4 tablets per kilogram of feed.

  8, coccidiosis can be treated with Xiaoqingyi and Dahongpao, with relatively good results.

  9, leucocytozoonosis, also known as white-comb disease, responds especially well to treatment with sulfamethazine. Add 4 tablets per kilogram of feed and administer continuously for 5–7 days for recovery.
