Key points:
  • For soybeans, China resumes purchases of U.S. origin
  • Expected rains for the harvest of soybeans in the United States and a good pace of planting in Brazil
  • The rapeseed is struggling to find direction in a rather quiet market
  • TheUkraine resumes sunflower exports to Bulgaria by road

The prices of soybeans listed on the Cbotfell sharply this Thursday 15 October 2026: -14,25 cts$/bu., to 1 263 cts$/bu., for the most actively traded November 2026 contract and – 14,25 cts$/bu. also for the second most active January 2027 contract, at 1 277,75 cts$/bu. The March 2027 contract closed at 1 286,25 cts$/bu. (- 13,75 cts$/bu.). The sharp decline affected all contracts (between – 10,50 and – 14,25 cts$/bu.) open for trading. No contract closed above 1 300 cts$/bu.

On Euronext, prices for rapeseed fell: -4,50 €/t, to 554,75 €/t, for the most active February 2027 contract and – 3,75 €/t, to 559,25 €/t, for the second most active May 2027 contract. The soybean quoted on the Cbot saw a general session of declines this Thursday, falling 29 cts$/bu. since the beginning of the week compared with Friday, 9 October. Yesterday’s session was marked by technical selling and selling by funds. However, buying interest remains very strong, according to several U.S. market analysis firms. While the pace of the harvest had improved in recent days, more rain is expected in the coming week, which could once again slow the harvest. TheUSDA will publish its weekly export sales estimates today. In the meantime, China bought 330 000 t of beans of U.S. origin yesterday, news that had already been factored into prices earlier in the week, and the USDA also announced sales of 283 450 t this Thursday to undisclosed destinations. The United States sold more than 1 Mt of soybeans in two days, including at least 800 000 t to China.

Internationally, Conab raised its production forecast for soybeans in Brazil (see Fundamentals), due to an increase in planted area that would offset lower yields. The Brazilian institution forecasts strong exports of beans and increased domestic use of beans to produce biodiesel in the current season. Also in Brazil, and concerning planting, the rains are welcome in the country’s Central West, along with cooler temperatures—“a good sign,” according to Eduardo Vanin, a soybean market analyst in Brazil. At the same time, he notes “drier weather conditions in the South, which is a good thing, and, in general, a faster planting pace this year compared with last year, under good conditions.” It is worth noting that the export offers, currently for nearby delivery, show that the origins Brazil and the United States are at the same level and are competing fiercely.

Prices for soybean meal andsoybean oil were down this Thursday on U.S. markets, with September crushing figures lower than those for the same month last year, according to Nopa. Harvest delays, slightly limiting the amount available for crushing, would explain this temporary weakness.

The rapeseed on Euronexthas not managed to find a clear direction, alternating between rises, falls, and stability over the past four sessions. The main listed contract lost on Monday and Thursday what it had gained on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s session was flat. Limited buyer demand and a campaign that is already well underway are holding traders back. Yesterday’s session saw price declines ranging from 3,75 to 4,50 €/t for delivery periods from February 2027 through February 2028 inclusive, and a sharp adjustment (more than 22 €/t) for later delivery periods. In the fields,France, the rain has helped, but combined with exceptionally mild weather, it means the various pests need to be monitored very closely.

The canola quoted in Winnipeglost considerable ground this Thursday, with declines ranging from 10 to 11 Canadian dollars per tonne (CAN$/t) for the three nearest delivery periods, with the November 2026 contract closing just above 800 CAN$/t

The prices for high-oleic sunflower in the Saint-Nazaire, a benchmark on physical markets in France, were unchanged from one session to the next.

The Ukraine has resumed its exports of seeds since 8 October sunflower by road to Bulgaria after a month-long interruption, due to the country of origin’s minimum export price requirements, which were causing shipment delays and making contract execution much more complex for suppliers. Meanwhile, Bulgarians are turning to sea deliveries, making the resumption of exports from the origin Ukraine quite fragile, according to UkrAgroConsult and Agro Grot.
