Youran Animal Husbandry and Henan's Lankao County Sign StrategicAgreement to Build a 6-Ten-Thousand-Mu Base in the Central PlainsLargestHigh-Quality Alfalfa Planting Base
10 month 10 day, the signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation agreement on the high-quality alfalfa planting base project in Lankao County between Youran Animal Husbandry and Lankao County was successfully held. Wang Xingyong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Kaifeng Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Lankao County Committee; Zhang Weibo, Deputy Secretary of the County Committee and County Magistrate; Li Wei, Deputy Secretary of the County Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission; Zhai Shisheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the County Committee and Director of the County Committee Office; An Ran, Deputy County Magistrate; and Cai Zhiye, Deputy Director of the Lankao Branch of the Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, attended the signing ceremony. Fan Junming, head of Yihe Lujin, the grassland business of Youran Animal Husbandry, attended and signed on behalf of the company.
The forage base is planned to cover 6 ten thousand mu. Leveraging the natural resources of the Yellow River floodplain, it will develop a high-quality alfalfa belt. Upon completion, it will become the largest alfalfa-growing base in You Ran Dairy’s Central China operations, producing approximately 17 ten thousand tonnes of alfalfa silage annually and reliably supplying high-quality “daily rations” year-round for 9.5 ten thousand high-yielding lactating cows. You Ran Dairy has invested 24 hundred million yuan in Henan Province and established 4 large-scale commercial farms, raising 4.5 ten thousand dairy cows. The project will further strengthen the upstream forage supply chain for the dairy industry in Central China and foster a new model for high-quality development across the dairy industry chain.

As early as 2014, You Ran Dairy was among the first to enter the forage-growing sector. It established a standardized, high-quality alfalfa-growing base covering 5.5 ten thousand mu in Ar Horqin Banner, China’s “Grassland Capital,” and subsequently established several forage-growing bases in Inner Mongolia, Gansu, and other locations. Its forage-growing area is approximately 24 ten thousand mu, making it China’s largest alfalfa supplier. The only enterprise in Inner Mongolia selected for the seed industry formation, You Ran Dairy has established 2 alfalfa seed industry bases in Hohhot and Chifeng. It is dedicated to research and development of forage-breeding technologies for high yield, high quality, and high conversion rates, and works with research institutions including the Institute of Grassland Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing Forestry University, Inner Mongolia University, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, and Jilin Agricultural University to advance forage variety selection and breeding, as well as the development of industrialization technologies. It has now built end-to-end professional capabilities spanning forage variety selection and breeding, planting technology development, and the supply of high-quality forage. In recent years, the share of You Ran Dairy’s self-produced premium-grade alfalfa has consistently exceeded 60%.
Henan is one of China’s ten major dairy-producing regions. Located in the heart of Central China, it enjoys strong transport and geographic advantages, connecting the east with the west and the south with the north. Lankao County borders Shanxi, Hebei, and Shandong provinces and has a convenient, well-connected transport network. Compared with transporting forage products to eastern demand markets from traditional major alfalfa-producing regions such as the Hexi Corridor in Gansu, this location can reduce transport costs by nearly half. The area’s soil, climate, and rainfall are suitable for alfalfa, allowing 6-7 harvests a year, with significant production-capacity advantages. Once implemented, the project will make effective use of existing land resources, help expand and strengthen the full grass-and-livestock industry chain in Lankao County, and deliver ecological, economic, and social benefits, promoting greener land, greater industrial efficiency, and higher incomes for local residents in the Yellow River floodplain.
This strategic signing will fully leverage You Ran Dairy’s accumulated technical expertise and full-industry-chain synergies, establishing a strategic layout of interconnected alfalfa-growing bases in northern and Central China. The project will strongly support the high-quality development of You Ran Dairy’s milk-source cluster in central and southern China and help upgrade the quality and development of the regional dairy industry.
