Soft wheat prices fell in a quieter market

The price of soft wheat delivered to Rouen, its benchmark location on the French physical market, stood at 242 €/t for the October-December period on 12 October 2026, down 2,50 €/t from 5 October 2026, following Euronext (- 2,50 €/t, at 243,25 €/t for the December 2026 contract) and the CBOT (- 20 cts$/bushel to 672,25 cts$/bushel for the December 2026 contract). Animal feed manufacturers are largely covered for October-December, although some additional purchases are still being made. According to Céré’Obs, in week 40 (from 29 September to 5 October 2026), soft wheat sowing was 4% complete on the estimated area (compared with 5% the previous week and 6% at the same time last year).

More wheat in the United States

For wheat, the USDA slightly raised its production forecast for the United States to 41,75 Mt and for Canada to 36,5 Mt, but lowered its estimate for the European Union to 133 Mt, compared with 133,8 Mt in September. The global production estimate remains virtually unchanged at 822,39 Mt, as do end-of-season stocks, estimated at 276,04 Mt. The USDA cut its forecasts for global exports and imports by nearly 3 Mt. However, given the increase in production and the decline in U.S. exports, U.S. end-of-season wheat stocks were raised to 740 million bushels, compared with 717 million estimated in September.

Durum wheat prices remained unchanged in a wait-and-see market

The price of durum wheat delivered to Port-La-Nouvelle, its benchmark location on the French physical market, stood at 295 €/t for the October–December period on 12 October 2026, unchanged from 5 October 2026. Canadian exporters could lower the price of their durum wheat because of its low quality and flood the European market at low cost.

Feed barley prices gained ground in an active market

Feed barley delivered to Rouen, its benchmark location on the French physical market, stood at 228,50 €/t for the October–December 2026 period on 12 October 2026, up 4 €/t from 5 October 2026. On the domestic market, additional purchases for animal feed were made. Belgian feed manufacturers are active buyers in northern France. According to Céré’Obs, in week 40 (from 29 September to 5 October 2026), soft wheat sowing had been completed on 7% of the estimated area (compared with 9% the previous week and 12% at the same time last year).

French corn prices have surged, with yields in France catastrophic

Corn delivered Bordeaux, its benchmark location on the French physical market, stood at12 October 2026 at 286 €/t for October-December 2026, gaining 6,50 €/t compared with 5 October 2026, following Euronext (+ 2,25 €/t to 277 €/t for the November 2026 contract). On the CBOT, prices fell sharply (- 14,25 cts$/bushel to 483 cts$/bushel for the December 2026 contract). Operators are increasingly pessimistic about French production, with some now forecasting 6 Mt. USDA Wasde report raises its corn yield forecasts for US-origin corn

USDA published its report on world agricultural supply and demand on Friday, 9 October. A minor surprise: while market operators had expected a downward revision to the corn yield, the US administration actually revised it upward. It did the same for the country's production and end-of-season stocks. Globally, world production is now estimated at 1 293,75 Mt, compared with 1 290,95 Mt in September. However, that of the European Union was revised downward to 48 Mt. Global end-of-season stocks were ultimately raised to 280,44 Mt, compared with 272,1 Mt previously.

Firm prices for straw and forage

For the week running from 5 to 12 October 2026, prices are set at around 250 - 260 €/t at the Comité du foin de Crau, and this level could remain unchanged for a few weeks. Other ex-farm prices did not change from one week to the next. It was also reported via Radiotélévision Suisse that farmers in that country bought volumes of forage from Canada due to drought and shortages in Europe. The Swiss had already sourced hay of French origin a few weeks earlier, at very high prices.
