The meeting strictly followed democratic procedures. Tang Wei, Deputy Party Committee Secretary, Vice Chairman and General Manager of New Wellful, delivered a report on preparations for the consortium. The meeting reviewed and approved key documents, including the consortium’s Proposed List of Member Organizations, Articles of Association (Draft), Proposed List of the Executive Committee, Proposed List of the Chairperson, Executive Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons and Secretary-General, and Proposed List of the Expert Advisory Committee.

Liu Xingbin, a member of the Party Leadership Group of the Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said in his remarks that the establishment of the Hunan Pig Industry Consortium was an important milestone and would light the way forward toward a bright future for Hunan’s pig industry. He expressed the hope that, through the joint efforts of colleagues from all sectors, the consortium would become a world-leading platform bringing together talent, resources, technology, information, culture and channels. He also said it should uphold the principles of “opposing involution, opposing internal friction, benefiting others and oneself, and striving for excellence,” and make an outstanding contribution to the steady, long-term development of Hunan’s pig industry.

Academician Yin Yulong of the Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, spoke as the newly elected chair of the Expert Advisory Committee. He said that, as the consortium’s core technical think tank, professional support platform and hub for technology empowerment, the committee would firmly shoulder its core responsibilities of providing technical leadership, overseeing standards, building brands, and integrating industry, academia, research and application. It would serve as the consortium’s “technical brain,” “think tank and advisory resource,” and “backing for tackling key challenges,” and provide sustained, comprehensive and full support for the high-quality development of the province’s pig industry.

Yang Zhenghua, Deputy Party Committee Secretary, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Hunan Agricultural Group, and Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of New Wellful, spoke as the newly elected chairperson. He said that the Council would always make serving the industry its responsibility, empowering the sector its goal, and increasing incomes its guiding principle. It would work with full commitment to deliver results for the consortium in the short term, build its systems in the medium term, and establish it as a benchmark in the long term, contributing solid, lasting and strong Hunan pig-industry strength to building a strong agricultural province, advancing all-round rural revitalization, and ensuring stable production and supply of key agricultural products.

Liu Yanshu, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of Hunan Agricultural Group and President of the Hunan Pig Industry Association, said in his remarks that the supply-and-demand relationship in the pig industry was undergoing profound changes. The Hunan Pig Industry Consortium must shoulder its major political responsibility and take “value, coordination, openness and sharing” as its guiding principles for development. It should focus on addressing the industry’s pain points and bottlenecks, connect and integrate resources across the province’s pig-industry supply chain, and jointly explore new ways to respond to cyclical industry fluctuations and achieve high-quality development.

To rousing music, leaders attending the meeting jointly unveiled the consortium. The consortium’s dedicated symbol for setting sail is P919. P stands for “pig,” and 919 represents enduring unity and lasting prosperity, hence the phrase “Xiang Pig Forever.” Overall, it signifies all parties across the province’s industry chain joining hands in unity, advancing the Premium Xiang Pig initiative, safeguarding the bottom line of stable production and supply, and promoting the steady and sustained development and prosperity of Hunan’s pig industry.

As an important vehicle for coordinating industrial development and risk prevention and helping Hunan move from a major pig-producing province to a strong pig-producing province, the Hunan Pig Industry Consortium is positioned as a provincial-level professional alliance for coordinated development across the entire pig industry chain. Benchmarking itself against national standards for the development of agricultural industrialization consortia, it is building a three-pillar development system encompassing state-owned enterprise operations, research and development support, and industry guidance. The consortium brings together leading enterprises across the pig industry chain, professional cooperatives, family farms, large-scale pig farms and other business entities, as well as relevant universities and research institutes, pig insurance providers, financial and credit institutions, and investment institutions. Through innovation-driven development, intelligent information services, facilities and equipment support, and precise matching of production capacity and resources, it will promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements throughout the pig industry chain, deeper integration across the chain, and coordinated development; establish a close-knit mechanism for linking consortium members’ interests; appropriately regulate pig production capacity; improve the risk prevention and control system; strengthen market competitiveness across the board; and empower high-quality development of the pig industry.
