Autumn grain harvesting is progressing at an accelerated pace across China. The latest agricultural situation report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs shows that more than four tenths of the national autumn grain harvest has been completed. Across the country, efforts are being made to make the most of the harvest season and ensure that every grain is brought in.
Northeast China is currently at the peak of its autumn grain harvest. More than 6800 ten thousand mu of grain have been harvested in Heilongjiang, accounting for about three tenths of the province’s autumn grain area. In Youyi County, Shuangyashan City, 10 ten thousand mu of glutinous rice are entering the main harvest period. Through standardized planting, glutinous rice production here has largely achieved mechanization throughout the entire process of plowing, planting, harvesting, and storage. The local area is also actively promoting contract farming. After harvest, the glutinous rice is transported collectively to enterprises for storage and processing, turning a “good harvest” into “good income” for farmers.
The Liaoning autumn grain harvest is nearly halfway complete, progressing somewhat faster than at the same time last year. Across Liaoning, agricultural machinery is being coordinated and allocated, and cross-region operations are being organized. In Changtu County, Tieling City, corn harvesting has begun across more than 400 ten thousand mu. This year, the local area is further promoting the combination of mechanized corn harvesting with conservation tillage to protect black soil. With matching crushing and spreading equipment, the straw is returned to the fields to protect the soil layer.
Autumn grain harvesting is accelerating across the Huang-Huai-Hai region. In Hebei Province, corn has been harvested from nearly 3100 ten thousand mu, about three-fifths of the planted area. This year, Hebei Province has deployed 81 ten thousand units of agricultural machinery and promoted an integrated operation model combining “mechanical harvesting, drying, and storage.” In Renze District, Xingtai City, large combine harvesters move back and forth, completing ear picking, husking, and straw chopping and returning in one seamless operation, greatly speeding up the corn harvest. More than three-tenths of Anhui Province’s autumn grain acreage has already been harvested, with new equipment playing an important role in reducing losses and increasing yields. In Guoyang County, Bozhou City, fields of corn are thriving, with full ears and plump kernels. This year, the local area is vigorously promoting intelligent machinery for direct grain harvesting, which can complete multiple operations, including ear picking and threshing, in a single pass. Shifting from harvesting ears in the past to harvesting kernels today, the corn kernels are kept off the ground throughout the entire process, helping improve the quality of the autumn grain harvest and reduce losses.
