From 29 September to 1 October, the Tarragona Fair and Congress Centre hosted the XLV ANAPORC Congress of the National Association of Scientific Pig Production. Over three days, the event brought together nearly 450 professionals from the pig sector to address some of the main health, production and economic challenges that will shape the future of pig production. The scientific programme combined presentations, round tables and discussions, with the panel of experts addressing topics including market trends, ASF management, internationalisation, animal health, innovation, biosecurity and re-emerging infectious diseases, among others.

Boehringer Ingelheim was on hand at an event that grows in importance on the calendar year after year and attracts an increasing number of attendees. The company supported the XLV ANAPORC Congress as a sponsor, with a presence in the exhibition area and several contributions to the technical and scientific programme.

“For us, taking part in this forum is an opportunity to strengthen our commitment to knowledge transfer, the exchange of experiences among professionals, and supporting the pig sector in addressing current health challenges”, says Julia Cantín, Brand Manager for Swine at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Spain.

Technical session on respiratory health

One of the program’s main highlights was the presentation by Moha Sheik, Swine Technical Veterinary Advisor at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Spain. In his presentation, titled “Much More Than a Cough,” he explored one of the major challenges in pig production.

His presentation, which opened the second day, examined the importance of respiratory health in pig production and the impact that conditions associated with Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae can have on animal health and performance. In this regard, Moha Sheik highlighted the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to controlling respiratory diseases, as well as the importance of prevention and health monitoring to minimize their impact on pig farms.

Taking part in the discussion on women’s talent in the sector

The company also featured in the scientific program through Julia Cantín, Brand Manager for Swine at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Spain, who took part in the roundtable discussion “Women’s Perspectives Sustaining the Pig Sector.”

The session brought together professionals from different areas of the value chain, including veterinary, academic, and business, to share experiences and reflect on the contribution of women’s talent to the present and future of the pig sector.
