"For 2024, we have been working to overhaul the scoring charts for the Tarine breed Tarine by adjusting the weighting of existing criteria to give greater emphasis to the animals’ locomotion", explains Emilien Odouard of Cap Tarentaise. This work is based on three criteria: aplombs, udder attachments udder, the musculature expressed through the chest width. In addition, the sacrum height criterion has been removed.

Work has also been carried out on lactation persistency and milk cheesemaking suitability . "With the specifications for our Savoy AOPs, it is difficult to fully express peak lactation, which is why farmers are now looking for flatter lactation curves, allowing them to better manage feeding and make better use of milk components at the end of lactation", the technician continues.

At the same time, work is underway to renovate the'ISU and integrate this new data into the summary index. "The latest ISU dates from 2008. The idea is to arrive in 2028 at a new summary index that takes into account small changes in the weighting of functional traits and morphology criteria, so that we can move forward for 7-8 years with an updated ISU that matches our breeders' expectations as closely as possible", concludes Emilien Odouard.
