Live hog and pork carcass prices rose in September for the first time this year. According to Cepea, this trend was generally driven by reduced pork supplies and increased domestic demand for the protein. However, prices for specific cuts declined during the month.
Cepea reported that the industry saw a more intense and steady pace of business, contributing to the year's first price increase for both live hogs and carcasses.
Market participants surveyed by Cepea also point to a favorable outlook for the first week of October, as the industry is actively building inventories for the year-end holidays, alongside the seasonal rise in household demand at the start of the month.
