InIn Jesi, the results of the project were presented on 22 September 2026 at the conference “Sperimentazione e Management del Suino della Marca”.
The Suino della Marca project, relaunched in 2022 by Impronta Verde, the farm run by entrepreneur Emiliano Baldi, aims to turn the recovery of the Marche region’s genetic heritage into a fully integrated supply chain, linking breeding, research, processing and the market. About 2 million euros have been invested so far.
As of 31 August, the pig population had reached 1.242 head, with six farmers involved, three in the Marche region and three in Umbria. Production grew from 15 to 25 head per week and, at full capacity, a capacity of 2.500-3.000 pigs per year is expected, with slaughter at approximately 175-180 kg. The economic impact of the breeding phase alone could reach 1,75-2,1 million euros per year.
The next step is to establish the supply chain’s governance: the articles of association and regulations for the future voluntary consortium are at an advanced stage of development. The consortium will be based on a collective trademark, traceability and an animal registry. The structure envisages multiplier farms, involved in selecting and managing breeding animals, and commercial farms dedicated to raising pigs for meat.
As Emiliano Baldi points out, the goal is not merely to increase the number of animals, but to create a supply chain capable of distributing value locally. Achieving significant scale will require funding, but also shared rules, critical mass and a common marketing strategy.
