Record egg production in Poland

Poland is the world's third-largest egg exporter, after the USA and the Netherlands, and one of the EU's main producers. In 2025, domestic egg production reached a record 14,4 billion eggs. World Egg Day is celebrated this Friday

As Paweł Podstawka, President of the National Federation of Poultry Breeders and Egg Producers, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP), in 2025 domestic egg production achieved a record result of 14,4 billion eggs. For comparison, in 2000 it was 7,6 billion. The average Pole consumed 218 eggs last year — 17 pieces more than the previous year. According to preliminary estimates, eggs worth over 500 million euros were exported during this period.

- Poland has long ranked among the world's largest egg exporters. This sector, which relies heavily on external markets, is sensitive to any turbulence in those markets. Therefore, rising domestic consumption is one of the best pieces of news for the industry this year — Podstawka emphasized.

Poles are eating more eggs

He noted that this trend is linked to changing dietary preferences among young Poles, who increasingly favor high-protein diets. - A stable domestic market serves as a natural buffer, and discussions about the role of eggs in daily nutrition are not limited to holiday periods — he pointed out.

Experts remind that one large egg contains approximately 6-7 grams of protein, comprising all essential amino acids. Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and healthy bones. Eggs are also a source of vitamin D, vitamin B12, selenium, and one of the richest dietary sources of choline.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2024, Poland exported 239,6 thousand tons of eggs valued at 474,5 million euros. In the first nine months of 2025, 177 thousand tons of eggs worth 415 million euros were sent abroad, representing a year-on-year increase in value of 39 percent. Poland is the 3th largest egg exporter in the world, trailing only the Netherlands and the United States.

The largest egg production centers in Poland are the following voivodeships: Greater Poland (6,4 billion eggs in 2025), Masovian (3,8 billion eggs), and Silesian (0,58 billion eggs).

China accounts for nearly 38 percent of global egg production.

Globally, according to FAO data, approximately 100 million tons of eggs were produced in 2024 — overwhelmingly chicken eggs (94 million tons). China is responsible for nearly 38 percent of global egg production. India ranks second, accounting for 8,06 percent of world production.

World Egg Day is celebrated for the 30th time this Friday. The holiday was established in 1996 in Vienna upon initiative of the International Egg Commission.
