The session in soybeans on the Cbot was buoyed again by technical buying and fund buying, with traders awaiting the release of the monthly Wasde report on global agricultural supply and demand by the USDA this Friday, 9 October, late in the afternoon Paris time. On Tuesday, market participants continued to factor in the slight delay in the harvest (updated Monday by the USDA dits Crop Progress report) and the return of dry weather this week, which should accelerate the pace of fieldwork. However, rain is forecast again for the following week. The surge in the Brazilian real (+ 4 % on Monday following the elections in the country) against the dollar also favors U.S. exports. However, the continued Chinese tariffs on exports originating from the United States are not expected to encourage private Chinese buyers to import more soybeans of this origin. For now, the expectation is more that Chinese public-sector actors will maintain their pace of purchases originating from the United Statesin order to comply with the 25 Mt planned under the agreements between the two countries a year ago.
Internationally, it is the sowing in South America that oilseed market professionals are watching: very heavy rain fell in some regions of Brazil, which inevitably disrupted the pace of planting. In Brazil, the Conab will publish an update on soybeans on 15 October 2026.
The prices of soybean meal and soybean oilsoybean oil were rising this Tuesday on U.S. markets, amid a generally optimistic and therefore buying-oriented outlook for the oilseed complex. Prices ofsoybean oilare worth watching, as their sharp increases have reached a level that could prompt some operators to take profits, although international demand for this product remains very strong.
The rapeseed quoted on Euronext lost ground following sell-offs and technical selling in the nearest November contract 2026 (last trading day on 30 October), but the trend was rather bullish for the other trading months. Overall, demand for oilseeds appears rather weak. The new rise in oil prices oil this Tuesday (confirmed this Wednesday at around 7 Paris time) pushed prices higher. It should be noted that imports of rapeseed into France, cumulatively since the start of the marketing year (end of week 13), are slightly lower this year than last year (see Exports/Imports Table). Rain is arriving in Western Europe and should benefit winter crops.
The canola listed on Winnipeg rose again this Tuesday, approaching 826 Canadian dollars per tonne (CAN$/t) for the November 2026 contract and at 839 CAN$/t for the January 2027 contract. Harvest delays in the Prairies are still being noted.
Thepalm oil quoted in Kuala Lumpur fell this Tuesday, amid profit-taking and continued concerns over record-high stock levels in Malaysia in September. However, market participants detected some buying interest fromIndia (after important holidays that took place in the country), thanks to a favorable evolution of the ringgit on the foreign exchange market.
Prices for sunflower high oleic delivered to Saint-Nazaire remained unchanged from one trading session to the next. Sunflower harvesting in the Black Sea region is expected to accelerate this week, from 6 to 13 October.
