Key points:
- Another session of profit-taking in soybeans ahead of the Wasde
- Euronext rapeseed resumes its upward trend
- New forecasts for soybeans and sunflower of Argentine origin
Prices for soybeans traded on the Cbot fell again this Thursday, 8 October 2026: down 10 cts$/bu, to 1 287,50 cts$/bu, for the most actively traded November 2026 contract, and down 10,25 cts$/bu, to 1 304,25 cts$/bu, for the second most active January 2027 contract. The decline applies to all contracts and exceeds 10 cts$/bu for contracts through and including August 2027. On Euronext, rapeseed prices regained strength: up 6 €/t, to 512,25 €/t, for the nearby November 2026 contract (still the second most active), up 4,5 €/t, to 557,25 €/t, for the most active February 2027 contract, and up 5,50 €/t, to 560,25 €/t for the third most actively traded May 2027 contract.
Prices for Moselle FOB rapeseed, the benchmark on physical markets in mainland France, also rose.
Another session of profit-taking and technical selling in soybeans on the Cbot this Thursday, 8 October 2026 (the November 2026 contract well below 13 dollars per bushel and the February 2027 contract approaching 13 dollars per bushel), as the market awaits publication of the USDA’s Wasde report on global agricultural supply and demand (18 Paris time). Traders are not necessarily expecting any truly new information on soybeans, but theUSDA sometimes has a few surprises in store…
Harvest pace accelerates while weather remains dry, with rains expected this weekend in the eastern Midwest and early next week across the rest of that region. Field reports continue to raise questions about bean quality harvested in certain areas, although this view is not shared uniformly across the industry.USDA announced export sales below average, yet U.S. origin remains competitive against its main competitor (Brazil). On 1 October, CME Group (parent company of CBOT) announced that its soybean futures contracts reached a new monthly record for open interest, totaling 1 118 872 contracts in September — surpassing the previous record of 1 063 108 contracts set in April 2026.

Soybean meal prices declined this Thursday on U.S. markets, while soybean oil prices rose — these markets responding more to technical trading activity than to fundamentals.
Internationally, traders continue monitoring weather conditions for planting in Brazil, where rainfall has caused flooding in southern regions (Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul), but will be more limited or even absent in the north (e.g., Mato Grosso). Soybean planting may be locally delayed. Favor soybeans, where hydrological conditions remain generally favorable for planting and early development; the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service has revised its production forecast for the country upward (see Fundamentals), while noting that Brazil will prioritize domestic crushing to enable greater exports of oil and meal rather than raw seed.e, where hydrological conditions remain generally favorable for planting and early development; the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service has revised its production forecast for the country upward (see Fundamentals), while noting that Brazil will prioritize domestic crushing to enable greater exports of oil and meal rather than raw seed.USDA — the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service has revised its production forecast for the country upward (see Fundamentals), while noting that Brazil will prioritize domestic crushing to enable greater exports of oil and meal rather than raw seed.
Rapeseed prices traded on Euronextprices found their way back up after two consecutive sessions of sharp declines, particularly in the nearby contract, due to position adjustments between the current November 2026 contract (closing at the end of October) and the February 2026 contract, which has become the most active. The prices reached the previous day allowed buyers to reposition themselves, also benefiting from the rebound in oil prices (WTI and Brent). In the fields, flea beetles and ants are still present, particularly on the plateaus in the intermediate zones of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, but caterpillars of the cabbage white butterfly are now also being detected. The return of the forecast rain will benefit the soils but could also bring new crop pests, according to some technicians specializing in this crop.
The canola dimensioned at Winnipeg continued the previous day’s upward trend, but less significantly. Operators are closely monitoring Canadian weather forecasts, which predict a cold spell in the western Prairies. This could slow down the final harvest work.
L'palm oil listed at Kuala Lumpur rebounded sharply this Thursday, due to recent demand from India. The logistical disruptions in the Black Sea that prevent the proper export of thesunflower oil origin UkraineThis rebound was also explained. We also note a certain decline in the ringgit and the Malaysian government's decision to temporarily remove its export taxes on palm oil.
The prices of the sunflower oleic rendered Saint-Nazaire,a benchmark for French physical markets, did not change from one trading session to the next. In Argentine, the local United States Department of Agriculture office forecasts a record production level for 2026/2027 (see Fundamentals). Turkey needs to import sunflower seeds this year (probably 1,8 Mt in total, according to the US agricultural affairs office in Istanbul) due to a poor harvest. Turkish importers have already bought 400 000 t of seeds during the September–November period, mainly from Black Sea countries (Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria, the three main suppliers last year), according to Ukrainian trader Darya Trade & Agro Vira.
Business life section (international port exports), the Greek shipowner Almi Marine, which revealed the acquisition of five new Ultramax bulk carriers (64 000 tonnes deadweight, or DWT) at the beginning of October this month, according to Baird Maritime: two will be delivered during the second quarter of 2029 by Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering and three others in 2030 by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry. Those expected in 2029 are part of a broader fleet renewal plan and will replace two older Supramax vessels. Almi Marine had ordered three Ultramax vessels in 2022 (delivered in 2024) from Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering. For its part, the Chinese food trading and international trade giant Cosco had already announced several acquisitions of new vessels to renew its fleet in August 2026.
