The profitability of French pig farms remains under pressure, although the sharp rise in quotations recorded since July has improved the situation, according to FranceAgriMer.
In June of 2026, feed costs calculated by Ifip fell slightly to 297 €/t, while the quotation for the class S carcass stood at 1,69 €/kg.
The relationship between the price of the S-class carcass and the price of feed, used by FranceAgriMer as an approximate indicator of farm profitability, improved slightly in June to reach a value of 5,7. FranceAgriMer considers a value of 6 to correspond to an adequate level of profitability.
In July and August, the situation improved thanks to the sharp rise in pig prices. Thus, the price of the S-class carcass reached 1,97 €/kg on 24 August 2026.
However, this improvement is limited by rising costs. FranceAgriMer notes that energy costs and the costs of raw materials used for animal feed, especially cereals and soybeans, are also rising.
