The data highlight the high geographical concentration of Spanish pig production. Aragon and Catalonia together accounted for 52,7% of Spain’s pig population in December 2025.

A similar situation can be observed in Germany, another of the European Union’s leading pork producers. In this case, Niedersachsen had 7,2 million pigs and Nordrhein-Westfalen 5,9 million. Together, both regions accounted for 60,7% of Germany’s pig population.

Eurostat also highlights Denmark’s specialization in pig production. Midtjylland was the Danish region with the largest number of animals, with 4,3 million pigs.

Across the European Union as a whole, the pig population reached 131,5 million animals in 2025.
