• After a sharp drop in VEZG quotations in Germany, the market has calmed down, but price pressure on producers in Poland and across the Oder remains very high.
  • In Poland, class E pigs currently cost 5,40–6,00 PLN/kg, and the average purchase price has fallen to around 5,70 PLN/kg, down by nearly 10 groszy week on week.
  • In the EU, some countries have lowered their rates, and the drastic drop in prices in the USA from 1,49 to 0,94 USD in two weeks, or by more than one third, is also noteworthy.

After last week’s earthquake on the German VEZG association’s market (as a reminder, last Wednesday’s quotation closed at - 8 euro cents), this week fortunately brought no major changes in prices across the Oder. This does not change the fact that producers in both Germany and Poland are under enormous price pressure. Worse still, there are reports that the German market has not yet had its final say—and in a negative sense:

- Both here and across the Oder, farmers fear further price cuts, because there is talk behind the scenes of a reduction to as low as 1,20 euros per kg in class E. That price was seen in February 2022, just before Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine - comments Bartosz Czarniak, spokesperson for PZHiPTCh Polsus, on social media.

Pig prices 6.11.2026

Meanwhile, let us return to the Polish market. According to data from our survey today, last week most purchasing centers decided to maintain the rates set earlier, although some opted to lower them. As a result, the average price in our quotation fell slightly.

For fattening pigs in class E (according to the WBC classification), domestic plants are currently paying from 5,40 to 6,00 zł per kilogram. The average purchase price is 5,70 zł/kg, nearly 10 groszy lower than a week ago.

A smaller price drop was recorded for fattening pigs settled by live weight. The average price in this case is slightly over 4,25 zł net per kilogram—several groszy less than a week ago. Prices range from 3,80 to 5,00 zł/kg.

Pig prices in the EU

According to KZP-PTCh Polpig quotations, the situation among other leading pig producers in the EU is somewhat varied. While Germany and Denmark maintained their previous rates last week, other significant players decided to lower prices. France lowered its rates by 6 euro cents last week, while Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands lowered theirs by 5 euro cents. The sharp drop in prices in the USA is also noteworthy—in the space of two weeks, it fell from 1,49 to 0,94 USD, a decrease of more than 1/3.
