The National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA) added the Official Establishment No. 263 to the list of plants authorized to export inedible tallow to the European Union (EU).
This approval represents progress in the recovery of exports of this animal-derived by-product to the European market, a destination to which no shipments had been made since November 2023.
The approval allows the national meatpacking industry to expand its commercial opportunities and promotes the utilization of by-products derived from slaughter, contributing to their valorization and marketing in international markets.
It is worth noting that inedible animal-derived tallow is a raw material for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Since it is not fit for human consumption, this by-product of the meat industry is classified as waste, making it possible to produce a biofuel with a significantly lower carbon footprint than fossil kerosene. It is treated with hydrogen at high temperatures to remove oxygen, sulfur, and other impurities and produce a biofuel.
In this way, SENASA continues working to secure and regain access to international markets for products and byproducts of animal origin, promoting Argentine exports and ensuring compliance with the sanitary requirements imposed by destination countries.
