Beneath the calm surface, regional trends have quietly diverged. In some southern areas, scattered positive signals from the start of the curing season have nudged prices slightly higher. Most northern production areas, however, remain under pressure: producers are still keen to ship, and prices continue to trend weakly. Supply-side pressure has not truly eased. Capacity reduction progressed slowly earlier on, and improved farming efficiency has kept the actual supply of market-ready hogs at a high level. More importantly, average shipping weights have been slow to come down. Some planned shipments from large-scale producers have been postponed, while hogs from secondary fattening and delayed shipments continue to be released gradually. The market is not short of hogs.
