PORMAG presented its new Report on the evolution of the main indicators of the pork sector, corresponding to September 2026, which analyzes production performance, foreign trade, consumption, and some of the main competitiveness variables in the industry.
The data show a chain that continues to expand. During September, 78 039 tons of pork were produced, 1,9 % more than in August. In the cumulative total for the first nine months of the year, production reached 670 203 tons, representing growth of 12,1 % compared with the same period of 2025.
Exports grew 68,3 %
One of the report’s highlights is the evolution of exports. Between January and September, they reached 12 740 tons, compared with 7 571 tons in the same period of the previous year, representing a year-on-year increase of 68,3%.
In addition, export volumes in September grew by 9,8% compared with August and by 37,4% compared with September 2025.
This development is a positive sign for the chain, although the report warns that exports still account for a small proportion of total production. In this context, one of the challenges is to expand commercial destinations, diversify products, and strengthen the international positioning of Argentine pork.
Consumption has already reached 20,60 kilos per inhabitant
The domestic market continues to be the main driver of activity. Per capita consumption, measured using the moving average, reached 20,60 kilos per inhabitant per year in September, with year-on-year growth of 10,7%.
This figure consolidates the upward trend that pork has been showing on the tables of Argentinians and represents an opportunity to continue developing the domestic market.
Import growth, a challenge for competitiveness
The report also focuses on imports. In September, 7601 tons entered, 39,6 % more than in August and 72 % above September 2025.
In the period analyzed, imports reached 51 273 tons, with year-on-year growth of 19,8 %. Added to this is the difference in the price per kilo of pork between Argentina and Brazil, a variable that takes on particular importance amid the increase in imported products.
The indicators show that Argentina’s pork sector continues to grow in production, consumption, and exports. The challenge going forward will be to ensure that this expansion translates into a more competitive, integrated, and sustainable value chain, strengthening coordination among production, industry, and marketing, and creating the conditions to expand the presence of Argentine pork in international markets.
