On 10 month 23, the Fifteenth Leman China Swine Conference and World Swine Industry Expo was held in Zhengzhou, Henan. Qin Yinglin, lifetime honorary chairman of Muyuan, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote report titled “Building a Better Ecosystem for Pig Farming Together,” sharing Muyuan’s pig-farming practices in two areas: the industrial ecosystem and the environmental ecosystem.
At the opening ceremony, Qin Yinglin, Chairman Emeritus for Life, said that the global pig farming industry is currently facing severe challenges from cyclical fluctuations, disease threats, and the transition to low-carbon practices. Against this backdrop, it is all the more important to rely on technological innovation to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and produce high-quality products. China has the world’s largest market and a deep foundation in technology. We are willing to deepen cross-border and interdisciplinary cooperation with peers around the world, using technology to improve efficiency and green practices to protect the ecosystem, so that pig farming can truly become a respected modern technology industry.
At the same time, at the opening ceremony, Qin Yinglin, Lifetime Honorary Chairman, presented awards to the recipients of the “Morrison Scientific Practice Award.” Sponsored by Muyuan, the award focuses on developing young veterinary experts and recognizes young veterinarians who demonstrate critical thinking in pig farming practice and can apply research to solve production problems.

Key points of the keynote report
Introduction: Challenges and Opportunities
Current challenges:
In the industry, the better the pigs are raised, the greater the losses; at the same time, environmental standards continue to be upgraded, with comprehensive monitoring ranging from remote sensing satellites to public reporting.
Outside the industry, extreme weather events such as droughts and floods are intensifying, repeatedly impacting food production and making agricultural production extremely vulnerable.
But opportunities also arise:
Artificial intelligence is advancing by leaps and bounds, bringing great hope. Large models are now being developed across many fields. The value of a large model for pig farming is that it can serve every pig farmer.
I'd like to share that the large-scale pig farming model built by Muyuan using 30 years of accumulated data and experience can prescribe treatments, manage production, and diagnose diseases—equivalent to providing every pig farmer with a super-intelligent assistant.
Face reality, raise the issues, and work together to solve them. Problems persist, and answers are always evolving. We believe the industry must help itself and work together to build a better ecosystem for pig farming. Today, we’ll share two topics: the industry ecosystem and the environmental ecosystem. Whatever people can imagine, someone can achieve.
01 Build an industry ecosystem
Industry self-discipline, disease prevention and control, and cost breakthroughs
There are several aspects to consider when building an industrial ecosystem:
First, how can we get out of the trap of “the better the pigs are raised, the more money is lost”?
The answer is that industry self-regulation and capacity oversight, together with government and industry associations, drive adjustment. Experience in some countries that have already gone through this process, over 50 years and 30 years, tells us that oversight is necessary.
Muyuan’s specific actions are: first, halt construction at 124 farms under construction, with a capacity of 1200 ten thousand head; second, suspend operations at 92 farms, with a capacity of 670 ten thousand head; third, reduce production: adjust the number of breeding sows from 362 ten thousand to 297 ten thousand, a reduction of 65 ten thousand head, or 18%.
At present, Muyuan is a beneficiary. Muyuan is firmly committed to adjusting production, and we believe this adjustment is the right decision.
Second, how can we solve the problem of “one illness leading to overnight poverty”?
Muyuan can do the following:
【1】Build a comprehensive network for swine disease prevention and control.
Muyuan's swine disease “Skynet Project” has received an investment of 315 hundred million yuan. As of 9 this year, 24 hundred million yuan has been invested in testing fees. It covers 24 provinces and 114 monitoring sites nationwide; the laboratory radius is 100 km, covering the main production areas nationwide. Testing takes 3 hours. Results are available one hour after samples are delivered, gaining more than ten precious years for the prevention and control of severe diseases such as African swine fever.
【2】Early warning monitoring and joint defense, building a 3km safety island for Muyuan.
Combine management of the national disease-free zone with joint prevention and control involving surrounding pig farms and households. Provide free testing and establish a 3km safety zone. With the farm at its core, the 3-kilometer safety zone includes free monitoring for surrounding livestock farms, enabling comprehensive oversight.
【3】Major Epidemic Emergency Special Operations Team.
A special operations team of 1200 people, distributed across 24 provinces and regions nationwide, ensures that it can reach any location within one hour in the event of an emergency. We proactively help nearby farmers with rescue efforts, replicating Muyuan’s control capabilities for them so that emergencies do not turn into disasters.
Third, how can we survive a cyclical downturn?
We need to delve deeper into the “600 cost” metaverse. In the AI era, to truly put the capabilities of the large pig-farming model to use, we are opening it up so that more pig farmers can benefit from technological advances.
Fourth, share technology openly and build an industry ecosystem together.
An air-filtered pig house independently developed by Muyuan. Four-stage filtration at the air intake can block pathogens and viruses in the air from entering the pig house, creating air quality for the pigs that is close to that of an operating room. Inside the pig house, a precision ventilation system ensures that every pig can breathe safe, fresh air. The sterilization and deodorization system at the air outlet can eliminate odors and prevent disturbance to nearby residents, addressing an industry challenge and advancing green, high-quality development.
This technology is now being widely applied throughout the industry, with significant results in preventing and controlling African swine fever and improving production performance.
We also share low-soybean-meal diet technology, helping to continuously reduce soybean and soybean meal consumption and safeguard national food security. We share two-breed rotational crossbreeding technology with the industry: it enables rapid breeding, serves both breeding and meat production, allows herds to be replenished at any time, smooths out the pig cycle, and keeps costs low. It also helps with pig prices and breeding stock value, overcomes limitations on breeding stock, and brings convenience to more people in the pig-farming industry.
In 6 months, we will work with the Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School to provide training for farmers around Muyuan’s farms, helping them become excellent pig farmers.
We sincerely hope that the industry can break through by relying on self-discipline and doing a good job of joint prevention and control; by also leveraging large models and deeply exploring cost-saving opportunities worth 600 yuan, so as to preserve cash during downturns and save money during peaks; and by fostering mutual support and sharing for common development, together building a thriving industry ecosystem.
02 Building an environmental ecosystem
Muyuan is a beneficiary of ecological friendliness
Muyuan has put its efforts into five areas: emissions reduction and carbon reduction; air pollution and odor control; water and manure treatment; neighbor relations; and the future of university students working in farming.
First, carbon reduction: the pig farming industry has enormous potential.Carbon sink revenue exceeded 980 ten thousand yuan, photovoltaic cost reductions amounted to 1.17 hundred million yuan, and biogas utilization amounted to 2.99 hundred million yuan.
In 2025, Muyuan reduced carbon emissions by 605 ten thousand tonnes of CO₂e, and the carbon footprint of pork reached 0.88 kgCO₂e, which was 1.2 kgCO₂e below the internationally advanced level and 51% lower than the international average of 1.82 kgCO₂e.
One Earth, one home, sharing the same boat. Looking ahead, we should actively promote Chinese photovoltaic, wind power, and other new energy technologies, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and work together to protect the climate security of our planetary home.
Second, odor control addresses a persistent industry challenge.Innovative air filtration pig house: the air discharged from the pig house is of better quality than the natural air in the natural environment, reaching an excellent grade. PM2.5 is reduced to single digits, a reduction of 96.8%; PM10 removal rate: 99.7%; after sterilization, the sterilization rate reaches 99.9%. Ammonia is collected from the exhaust air, with a collection rate close to 100%. We share deodorization and sterilization technology with the industry and serve neighboring pig farms and chicken farms.
Third, manure wastewater treatment—China’s three-step solution: produce biogas, remove color and odors, and precisely apply it to farmland. One benefit is revenue: solid-liquid separation generates more than 2000 in revenue from organic fertilizer. The second is the process: liquid manure undergoes anaerobic fermentation, nitrogen removal, and deodorization, thoroughly resolving the contradiction between China’s high livestock-farming density, high population density, and limited land-carrying capacity. At the same time, we innovate 8 ways to return water and fertilizer to farmland. Through land improvement, barren land becomes fertile farmland and deserts become oases, contributing more arable land to the country.
A farm is a circular economy. Farm manure becomes fertilizer, fertilizer is used to grow grain, and the grain is made into feed. This supports environmental protection while making use of the value of waste.
Fourth, build friendly relationships with farmers through the “Championship · Harvest Festival.”In 2025, we have cumulatively served 492.62 million mu of farmland, invested 5.18 billion in agricultural services, and helped farmers increase their income by 10.17 billion yuan over the year.
Fifth, university students farm the land, exploring the future of Chinese agriculture.Explore the value of applying remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and agricultural IoT in agriculture. Drawing on the 6.7-ten-thousand-mu integrated crop-and-livestock farming demonstration area, explore the future direction of Chinese agriculture from the perspectives of social, economic, and ecological value. University students farm, using technology and smart systems to cultivate the land and pass it on to the next generation of young people.
Muyuan's professional team for the pig farming ecosystem has 6827 members, including 1042 university graduates and 308 public-interest agronomists. While working on environmental protection in livestock farming, we also have a professional team carrying out this work. We are forging our own path while exploring a new path for the industry. New challenges keep emerging, and environmental protection work is ongoing.
We hope the future of the pig farming industry will be free of pollution and hidden risks, free of odors and disturbance to nearby residents, and enable us as pig farmers to contribute to the ecosystem and farm pigs with dignity.
