From 10 to 22, 24 to 2026, the World Pork Festival and International Pork and Pork Products Exhibition was held at the Zhengzhou Zhongyuan International Convention and Exhibition Center. The International Pork Development Forum brought together industry experts and corporate representatives for discussions on the high-quality development of the pork industry. During the main forum, Qin Muyuan, CEO of Muyuan Meat, delivered a keynote report titled “Thoughts on the Development of the Slaughtering Industry.” Drawing on industry trends and changes in the market landscape, as well as Muyuan Meat’s industry practices, he shared his thoughts and assessments on the modernization and transformation of the slaughtering industry.

Core Viewpoints

The slaughtering industry is undergoing structural change. Consumer demand is shifting from “having meat to eat” to “eating good meat,” and customers are setting higher expectations for the quality, pricing, and innovation of the upstream supply chain. The report notes that slaughtering companies face greater challenges, but also more opportunities, and that the industry is at a critical juncture in its modernization. In response to this change, Muyuan Meat shares its thinking and practices on the transformation of the slaughtering industry in five areas: “the strictest food safety, higher product quality, continuous product innovation, helping customers upgrade, and comprehensive digital and intelligent transformation.”

I. The strictest food safety

Food safety means food safety across the entire chain, from farm to table. With social progress and consumption upgrades, consumers’ expectations for food safety continue to rise. Muyuan has built a closed-loop food safety system across the entire industry chain, covering four stages: raw grain, feed, farming, and slaughtering.

At the raw grain stage, establish a nationwide quality risk early-warning map to achieve full coverage of intelligent raw grain testing, automated toxin testing, and zero admission of non-compliant raw materials; at the feed stage, implement intelligent production and precise online monitoring to ensure feed safety; at the farming stage, rely on a fully self-operated model and intelligent equipment to enable end-to-end monitoring; at the slaughtering stage, implement corporate standards that are higher than national standards by 10%, ensuring that all pork products entering the market are safe, healthy, and able to withstand inspection.

Two. Higher Product Quality

With consumption upgrading, providing higher-quality pork products is an important direction for the development of the slaughtering industry. Muyuan adheres to two red lines: “no conceptual innovation” and “no low-quality products at low prices.” It does not rely on hype around concepts to command a high premium, nor does it compete in a homogeneous market with low-quality, low-priced products. Instead, it builds quality improvements on coordination across the entire industrial chain and sound management of slaughtering operations.

In slaughtering operations, Muyuan promotes product quality improvements in four ways. First, it guides breeding by using feedback from slaughtering and market operations to the farming side to drive continuous improvement in live pig quality. Second, it manages pigs before slaughter to improve meat quality and yield while safeguarding animal welfare. Third, it optimizes processing techniques, applying processes such as acidification and cutting to improve product quality. Fourth, it strengthens management of clean workshops and controls product bacterial colony indicators to ensure shelf life and freshness. By linking pig farming with slaughtering, it turns coordination across the entire industrial chain into quality value that consumers can perceive.

Three. Ongoing product innovation

Changing consumer demand has driven the gradual expansion of product formats in the slaughtering industry from whole carcasses to cuts and small packages. In the past, whole carcasses were the industry's main product. As consumer demand has changed, demand for cuts has continued to grow. Building on this, Muyuan has introduced small-package products, further expanding its product formats, reducing the handling consumers need to do and improving ease of use. Every expansion in product formats, from whole carcasses to cuts and small packages, stems from changing consumer demand, bringing pork products closer to the practical needs of modern life.

Four. Helping customers upgrade

Consumer expectations for value for money and product quality continue to rise, while retail channels are placing greater emphasis on product selection and the shopping experience. Muyuan works with customers to optimize product structures and improve the consumer environment in farmers' markets. At the same time, through stable supply and coordinated operations, it boosts customers' operational efficiency, helping them earn higher profits and play a greater role in the industry chain, while jointly driving the transformation and upgrading of channels.

Five. Comprehensive Digital and Intelligent Transformation

The slaughtering industry has high turnover requirements and involves many interconnected processes. The level of digital and intelligent transformation is becoming an important factor in operational efficiency. At the factory level, Muyuan connects separate workshops and processes across the production line and equips them with individual machines, reducing reliance on manual labor and improving turnover efficiency. In business operations, the slaughtering industry focuses on operational performance and is sensitive to market changes. Muyuan continues to advance the development of a digital business management system, using standardized processes and digital tools to improve coordination across multiple processes and the quality of business decisions.

Muyuan continues to drive progress in food safety, quality improvement, product innovation, customer upgrades, and digital and intelligent transformation. It is committed to modernizing China's slaughtering industry and promoting the modernization of wholesale and retail, catering, and food processing, so that the slaughtering industry earns greater respect!
