The sharp increase in the price of special pork carcasses throughout October has been reducing their competitiveness against beef and chilled chicken in Greater São Paulo. According to Cepea, although prices for all three proteins are rising, the increase is more pronounced for pork.

According to Cepea researchers, the increase in pork carcass prices is related to producers’ tighter control over the supply of animals at the ideal slaughter weight and firmer demand for the meat at the end of the supply chain.

The Research Center notes that the increase in chilled chicken prices is linked to stronger demand for poultry protein in the first half of the month. Prices for boxed beef carcasses, in turn, remain firm in Greater São Paulo and are heading for a third consecutive monthly increase. Demand for beef protein is firmer due to household purchases in the first half of the month, in a movement similar to that observed for chilled chicken.
