Wheat prices fall sharply on the CBOT
Wheat prices fell by between 9 and 15 cents per bushel depending on the maturities.
On the most traded December 2026 contract, wheat was down 15 cents to reach 628,25 cents/bushel.
The March and May 2027 deadlines showed losses of 15,75 cents and 16,50 cents/bushel, to 642,75 and 650,25 cents/bushel.
Wheat retreats toward 232 €/t on Euronext
Following the decline observed on the CBOT, wheat prices on Euronext were down by 5 to 9 €/t depending on the delivery dates.
For the December 2026 delivery, the price of wheat fell by 8,75 €/t to 232,75 €/t, while for the March and May 2027 maturities, prices fell by 8,50 €/t and 7,75 €/t to both settle at around 232 €/t.
On Euronext, on 16 October, financial operators reduced their net long position in wheat by about 24 100 lots, bringing it down to 153 300 lots.

Black Sea: NATO strengthens maritime security, grain markets remain vigilant
According to UkrAgroConsult, NATO has decided to strengthen its presence in the Black Sea by deploying maritime patrol aircraft, drones and additional radar systems, following several attacks on merchant ships near the Romanian and Bulgarian coasts.
This decision comes after a series of incidents affecting at least five cargo ships and causing several casualties among their crews. It confirms that the logistical risk remains high in the region.
Ukraine: The resumption of negotiations fuels hope for a thaw
Diplomatic efforts between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia have made further progress in recent days.
After meetings between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin, all three parties indicated that they were ready to resume trilateral talks as early as November.
However, no concrete agreement appears to have emerged yet, and significant differences remain on territorial and security issues.
Egypt and Jordan: the return of buyers supports European wheat
The Egyptian public agency Future of Egypt purchased approximately five cargoes of wheat this week. The purchases were reportedly made through direct negotiation, without an international tender.
For its part, Jordan’s public grain buyer has launched a new international tender for the purchase of 120 000 tonnes of milling wheat.
The deadline for submitting bids has been set for 27 October 2026. This announcement comes just one day after the close of a previous tender on 20 October, which ended without a purchase.
According to operators, the origin of the wheat has not yet been confirmed, but European suppliers, particularly France and Romania, are reportedly well positioned to meet this demand.
Corn rebounds slightly on the CBOT
Corn prices at the Chicago CBOT rebounded slightly on Wednesday, following the rise in energy prices.
They were gaining 1,25 cents/bushel on nearby maturities of 2027 and lost between 1 and 2 hundred/bushel on the more distant maturities.
For the December 2026 delivery, the price of corn stood at 463,25 cents/bushel, while in March 2027 it stood at 477,25 cents/bushel, with both deadlines showing an increase of 1,25 cents/bushel compared to the previous day.
Corn futures fell on Euronext despite a strong nearby premium
Corn prices on Euronext were falling by 2 to 7 €/t on most maturities.
At the March 2027 deadline, the main deadline worked on to date, the price of corn fell by 3,25 €/t to 268,50 €/t. By the June 2027 deadline, the price of maize was falling by 3 €/t to 265 €/t.
The main point of tension nevertheless remained the November 2026 deadline. Its price stood at 291,25 €/t, down by 3,50 €/t compared with the previous day, but remained more than 23 €/t for the March and June 2027 maturities.
Physical exchanges remained constrained by this significant price gap between the different maturities.
Ukrainian corn prices continue to decline under harvest pressure
Feed corn buying prices generally ranged between 5 500 and 7 000 UAH/t CPT, while prices in Ukrainian ports fell further by 5 to 8 $/t, amounting to 154-160 $/t CPT port.
However, in western Ukraine, prices are holding up better thanks to competition between domestic users and traders who favor land exports to the European Union.
Maize: a better-than-expected harvest in Ukraine
Ukraine harvested 5,36 Mt of corn on only 20% of surfaces, compared with 4,91 Mt at the same time last year.
The average yield reaches 5,88 t/ha, compared with 5,49 t/ha en 2025.
This confirms that Ukrainian yields are currently higher than last year’s and generally better than expected in several regions. However, the harvest rate remains low (20%), leaving a significant portion of the potential yet to be confirmed.
At the same time, Ukrainian corn exports remain particularly dynamic. They reached 2,07 Mt as of October 19, against 1,27 Mt on the same date last year.
Despite the arrival of new volumes and the pressure on domestic prices, the growth in exports confirms the competitiveness of Ukrainian corn on the global market.
