The sharp increase in the price of special pork carcasses throughout October has been reducing their competitiveness against beef and chilled chicken in the São Paulo metropolitan area. According to Cepea, although the prices of these three proteins are rising, the increase is more pronounced for pork.

According to Cepea researchers, the increase in the price of pork carcasses is related to greater control by producers over the supply of animals at the ideal weight for slaughter and to stronger demand for meat at the end of the chain.

The Research Center highlights that the rise in the price of chilled chicken is linked to greater demand for poultry protein during the first half of the month. Beef carcass quotations, meanwhile, remain firm in the São Paulo metropolitan area and are heading toward their third consecutive monthly increase. Demand for beef has strengthened due to household purchases during the first half of the month, following a trend similar to that observed for chilled chicken.
