The soy CBOT-listed soybeans had an active session, once again driven by technical and fund selling. But U.S. analysts are adamant: even though sales have been significant in Chicago over the past ten days or so, long positions in the U.S.-traded soybean are still exceptionally large. The weather has changed and now forecasts a rather favorable week ahead for harvest progress. This Monday, the USDA’s weekly Crop Progress report stated that the harvest was 64% complete as of October 18, versus 46% the previous week, slightly below the five-year average (65%). All this comes amid wetter soils (both at the surface and at depth) this week than last week. The USDA also announced new soybean sales to China and to unknown destinations this Monday. Export inspections are also up this week compared with the previous week.pections are also up this week compared with the previous week.

Prices for soybean meal and soybean oil on U.S. exchanges were down this Monday.

Internationally, the seeding in Brazil is progressing well and stands at 30 % of the planned area this week, compared with 20 % last week and 22 % at the same time last year.

The rapeseed listed on Euronext also fell, amid weak European demand, with farmers already heavily committed to the season and grain users already well covered. In addition, Canadian canola is becoming more competitive on international markets in terms of price (with canola prices in Winnipeg losing ground over the past few sessions, the November contract, for example, having moved back below 800 Canadian dollars per tonne for November and just above this level for January 2027). In Europe, in the United Kingdom, the AHDB will publish on 22 October 2026 an initial assessment of the country’s supply and demand for 2026/2027 in cereals and oilseeds.

Thepalm oil quoted in Kuala Lumpur was flat this Monday, amid slightly higher palm oil prices in Dalian, soybean oil prices with no clear direction in Chicago, and high domestic stocks. The effects of El Niño are beginning to have significant consequences in Indonesia: drought has lowered the water level in the Kalimantan River, in the west of the country, and seeds are no longer arriving regularly or in sufficient quantities for crushing, forcing plants to slow their processing pace or even sometimes halt operations.

Prices of high-oleic sunflowerrendered in Saint-Nazaire did not change from one session to the next.
