The partnership aims to quantify carbon on rural properties to estimate the potential for generating soil carbon credits.
São Paulo, July 2024 – MyCarbon, Minerva Foods’ subsidiary for the origination and commercialization of carbon credits, and Exata Brasil, a leading agronomic analysis company in Brazil, launch a partnership to expand soil carbon analyses in agriculture projects, currently focused on grains in the Cerrado biome, in the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and the MATOPIBA region.
The partnership aims to quantify soil carbon and estimate the potential for generating carbon credits in the plots of rural properties belonging to the partners engaged in the project. As the first step in this collaboration, samples have already been collected from the first 1.200 hectares in the region, with an estimated additional 18.000 hectares to be analyzed in the states that make up MATOPIBA over the coming months.
Marta Giannicchi, Director of MyCarbon, explains the importance of the initiative for expanding carbon credit origination projects in Brazil. “The use of audited verification tools is an essential part of the projects we support throughout the country, as they ensure transparency and credibility in the process. We are very pleased with our partnership with Exata, which is recognized for its expertise and certified methodology, helping us continue to strengthen the carbon market in alignment with the highest international standards.”
A Exata Brasil holds ISO 17025 certification, including the gold methodology (DUMAS method – dry combustion), which serves as a reference for validating the calibration of NIR technology, also used in carbon analyses.
“Exata offers the market the most advanced soil carbon measurement technology, using state-of-the-art instruments and methods certified through the most rigorous international quality processes. We have found a highly relevant partner in Brazilian agribusiness in MyCarbon, which has also shown a strong commitment to working at the forefront of technology and leading the development of the carbon market. Together, we are ensuring that Brazil continues to be a leading player in global agriculture,” says Marcelo Marzola, CEO of Exata Brasil.
Based on initial studies and the main references on soil carbon for the Brazilian Cerrado, the projection is that it will be possible to generate from 0,65 to 0,85 VCU (Verified Carbon Unit) per hectare per year on the project's partner properties.
