The trade unions CCOO de Industria and UGT-FICA have called five days of strike action in Spain’s meat industry, from 9 to 13 November 2026, due to the lack of agreement in negotiations for the State Collective Agreement for the Meat Industry. The call extends the work stoppage initially scheduled for 11 November and affects a sector that, according to the trade union organizations, employs around 126.000 people.
Negotiations remain deadlocked over wages, working hours and other working conditions. On 6 October, the employers’ organizations ANICE, FECIC and AGEMCEX presented a new wage proposal providing for increases of 3,8% for 2026, effective from 1 January, 2,5% for 2027 and 2% for 2028. The offer includes an adjustment clause linked to the CPI, with additional increases of up to 1% in 2026 and 1,5% in 2027 and 2028.
For its part, CCOO de Industria is calling for a minimum wage increase of 4%, accompanied by a review clause linked to the annual CPI, with retroactive effect and payment of arrears. It also requests that the agreed improvements not be subject to absorption or offsetting.
Regarding working time, the unions propose reducing the maximum annual working hours by 16 hours, from the current 1.748 hours, counting the fifteen-minute snack break as effective working time and limiting the ordinary workday to nine hours per day.
The unions’ demands also include improvements to leave following the death of family members, an increase in accompanying hours, and measures related to occupational health and work pace.
The employers’ organizations, for their part, note that their proposal includes improvements to voluntary medical examinations, vacation pay and certain types of leave, as well as the creation of a Occupational Health, Absenteeism and Sustainable Productivity Sector Observatory. They also recall that the latest collective agreement included a reduction of twelve hours in the annual working hours.
